I got a job offer for a total of 40 hours a week teaching and developing curriculum, 1 day off guaranteed, at $1250 USD before Vietnamese taxes but including 12 paid vacation and 13 paid Vietnamese holidays. While this looked good initially, if I do the math on the hourly wage for a teacher at the same job, I would have to work just 18 hours/week for the same pay. I don't mind working 40 hours, I'm just concerned about the amount of hours for the pay and the lack of time to supplement my income if needed. Thoughts? |

Sounds great if you're the type of person who likes to work for 8 bucks an hour gross. You haven't given enough info, though. What do the 40 hours consist of? How many contact hours? How many hours for curriculum design, planning etc? These need to be defined in the contract if you don't want to be at the mercy of the employer.
It sounds like a crappy deal, anyway, given that even the bottom of the barrel jobs pay 15 bucks an hour. |

Where is the job based? If it is Hanoi or HCM then they are giving you very low wages. If this your first TEFL job?. It also depends how many of those hours are teaching. |

Does it really? Even at 20 contact hours, that's only $15 an hour. And unlike other $15 an hour jobs, they actually expect you to plan to the same standards as a $30 an hour job. And only one guaranteed day off a week? |
