RIYADH – Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, who is chairman of the Higher Education Council (HEC), has ordered the establishment of three new universities in Hafr Al-Batin, Bisha and north Jeddah, Minister of Higher Education Khaled Al-Anqari announced on Wednesday.
The two branches of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) and the University of Dammam in Hafr Al-Batin and neighboring governorates will be made into an independent university called the University of Hafr Al-Batin. The new university will include the existing 12 colleges in the towns of Al-Olaya, Al-Niairiah and Al-Khafji, the minister told the Saudi Press Agency. He said the branches of King Khaled University in Bisha and the other neighboring regions will be merged to form a new university named Bisha University. It will include 13 colleges in Al-Nammas, Balqarin, Tathleeth and Sabt Al-Alaya.
The King Abdulaziz University (KAU) branch in north Jeddah will be made into an independent university. The new Jeddah University will include the 13 colleges now scattered in a number of areas including the towns of Khulais, Al-Kamil and others.
A committee comprising the ministries of finance, civil service and the higher education has been set up to complete the procedures for the establishment of the new universities and the transfer of properties and staff.
Currently there are 24 government universities in the Kingdom besides private colleges, community colleges affiliated to universities, and girls colleges, in addition to government agencies and institutions that provide specialist university-level education. Seeking to enhance the future of higher education in the Kingdom during the next 25 years, the Saudi government devised a strategic plan, Afaq, to develop and expand higher education in the country. The development includes establishing new universities and colleges.

I had an interview for a job at the 'University of Bisha'. I think it went well and 'direct hire' interviews are hard to get, for me at least...unlike those endless pre-interviews and interviews with recruitment agencies.
However, I'm unable to find any information about this university. All that is available is info on King Khalid University (KKU). So far, people have mostly good things to say about KKU and Abha in general. At best, Bisha would be similar, although smaller and slower...
Also, The first MERS victim was an old man from Bisha

These universities are brand new... The websites haven't been updated yet, and also a lot of the satellite colleges will still come under the auspices of the old regime whether that is KFUPM or KAU, etc. It will probably take a year or so for everything to be sorted out... This is Saudi! |
