Hello,

Before diving in to Mexico, I'm hoping I can find something for the summer. I will obtain my TESL certificate at the end of this year but until then, my TESL classes are this semester and a final class in the fall.

I have a BA and am currently taking Spanish lessons. Thank goodness for constant exposure to Spanish in California!

My preference is Mexico City because I'd like to visit some friends there and it also has an Indonesian gamelan group but maybe other people can also persuade me into other cities or perhaps another Spanish speaking country?

Thanks!

"Summer jobs" aren't really a thing in Mexico. Summer vacation from school is only six weeks long. From early July to mid-August. There are day camps but they usually focus on sports or crafts, away camp isn't really a thing, And kids who failed a grade usually have to repeat the whole year, there isn't a summer school to catch up or anything like that. And now with immigration reform the visa process to work legally will take about six weeks. Schools aren't likely to do that for a teacher who is only staying six weeks.

If you don't need to live on what you make you might be able to find people to give private classes to. But three months really isn't much time for employers so it is most likely impossible that you will find legal work. You might find something under the table, but, again, probably not enough to live on. What are your goals for living in Mexico?

For the summer I'm thinking I could scout around. If I could find something for the summer then I could get my feet wet for teaching English in Mexico City or elsewhere before I'll be there long term in January of next year. And hopefully on the side learn any music and dance over there while teaching.
