Hi there,
I've just started to think about teaching in China this fall (was originally set on Japan). However, I've heard a lot more positive reviews about work-life balance when it comes to China, and who wouldn't want to learn Chinese?
A friend of mine works as an online teacher at EF in Shanghai. She tells me that she really likes it. It's a very laid back job and her managers are all easy going as well. While obviously this review really appeals to me, I'm wondering what EF is like for in-person teaching. My whole reason for testing out this teaching thing is that I want to do a job where I'm not in front of the computer all day.
So I'm wondering if EF has a good reputation all around? What other companies do you recommend?
Thank you for reading! |

EF varies franchise to franchise from what I've heard. |

Pretty much this. I worked for an EF school last year and despite having a few problems with the company, liked it overall. On the other hand, I've heard that other EF franchises are shockingly bad to work for. |

My two fen is that you're onto something here. I've paid the bills on occasion with online teaching (freelance, in my case) and even when I was setting my own schedule and making reasonable money, I hated the "in front of the computer all day" aspect. |

Hey LeiFeng,
I agree! It's especially difficult when you also have a blog and do a lot of creative stuff online. By the time you're done work, you don't want to be on the computer anymore.
I think I'll do online teaching here in the states, then go to china in the fall and do in person teaching. Do you have any online teaching schools you could recommend? |
