Hello, i know this is not the place to post as it is not educational based, however it does come under the term coaching which is relatively close to teaching.

I was wondering if there is a demand for coaching in sports, specifically football/soccer in China?

And does the visa law regard the same as ESL teachers? i have qualified FA Level 3 coaching badge as well as First Aid and 3 years prior to experience

I take sudden interest in China because of Chinese Government have made football a national curriculum as in 2015, and 20,000 Football based school are to be opened by 2017, so in effort this type of field will boom within coming years

I was just wondering if schools/universities you have heard of or even your own school/university are serious as the news say?

There was a poster on this site a while ago who was a tennis coach and was looking for a gig which had him/her doing some classroom stuff and some coaching.
There are 'sports universities' and Googling these might be a good idea.

I've seen it as a required extracurricular activity in some ads for Chinese high schools. Summer school programs ask for coaches. Keep looking. You'll see the ads.

Usually the position of coaching sports in a school is something that gets dumped on a FT who has a mild workload. Usually no financial incentive either.

Few if any schools actually hire a full time sports coach unless they are in a highly competitive situation.

One former teacher from our school landed a gig as a PE teacher in Hong Kong (perfect for him as he is athletically inclined). I have no idea what his duties included. As to mainland China, I have no input on that.

First of all wiz, I see that you are new, so apologies for our resident curmudgeon. You know the one. Best to ignore him.

Something else to consider: I worked at a Turkish-run school in Java for a couple of years. As I am an American, the Turkish principal asked me to, not coach, but check in sometimes with the softball team to give them a few tips and some encouragement. (I was also titular head of apple pie, hot dogs and Chevrolets ) I was glad to join a game or two until I noticed my good friend, the Javanese coach clearly resented my being there. I guess he felt I was moving in on his territory. We really were buddies and always got along just great. So the change in his demeanor on the ball field was quite noticeable. I also observed that he would neglect to tell me about practice times, and even lie about meeting times to keep me away.

Now this wasn't China, and I suppose if you were specifically hired to coach sports no one could feel jealous about your doing so, but it could be that if yo land a job, the local coaches, especially the ones who don't speak English as well as you, (i.e., all of them) might resent your being there and make your position somewhat uncomfortable.

The problem is that at normal schools sports aren't seen as important here. If you could coach something that adults wanted to learn about you might have better luck. I've heard of one guy being very successful as a golf coach, for example. I always wondered if there might be a market for sailing\boating lessons in Qingdao.

Thanks for your replies, it has been very helpful ... for visa regulations i think i fall into the R Visa category?? rather than the Z visa
