Hi,

I've searched the forum about the viability of saving money in Germany. Many of the posts are now very old.

If you work for one of the major language schools (e.g. Wall Street) under, say, a 20-25 hours contract (ie not freelance), is saving any money feasible or do people just scrape by?

I realise tax, pension insurance, health insurance have to be taken into account. Just wondering what people have experienced.

Scrape. By. Depending on what you mean by savings. You can probably save enough to buy a nice new bike and/or take a European holiday, but to buy a new car or a flat? Highly unlikely.

Savings would be very difficult.

Savings in Germany as an EFL teacher....I would say next to impossible due to the high cost of living and TAXES! Shocked

If you keep acquiring hours as a freelancer, then why not? It might take time, but you could squash in 30 units a week, which works out at (30 x 16) = 480 euros/week = 1920 euros/month. You could save 500 of that quite easily.
