I've been having a lot of trouble with getting work here in Fukuoka and was thinking about a move to Fukushima. One reason I would be interested in working there is because I figure there must be lots of volunteer work as well, which I would welcome.

I've been monitoring the safety of the city itself, and for me it's not something I'm worried about.

I just wonder if teaching jobs have dried up there because of a lack of funds, etc. I'm not looking for anything stellar. I can also translate and interpret, if that helps (JLPT1). Any info on the general scene is appreciated.

Thanks!

Look at Ohayo Sensei.
British Hills tends to advertise twice a year.
They are near Shirakawa.

For Sendai I think you would have to take a lower paying job as a start,
like at a senmon gakko.

What kind of voluntary work are you interested in? I have a friend who is helping out with some of the charity and voluntary organisations in Fukushima.

You can send me a pm if you like and I can put you in touch.

So you are not worried about a nuclear reactor 20 kilometers away that suffered a triple meltdown and china syndrome and that is still unstable? You are also not worried about all the fallout in Fukushima city, some areas should be no-go areas if they applied the same rules they applied to Chernobyl. You are also not worried about the constant earthquakes? then go for it. If your balls fall off though, don't come onto Dave's asking where you can buy a new pair though, cause Donki doesn't sell them. p.s. there is also a lot of English teaching work in Iraq and some volunteer work there too, it is about as dangerous as Fukushima but in a different way.

I'm pretty sure that nicenice isn't a fan of American teachers in Japan. A few earth quakes here and there, sure they may be some radiation but animals and plants are already returning to Chernobyl so I wouldn't worry too much about Fukishima. If you want to live 100% safely in a bunker somewhere and not worry a worry wort like nicenice, I hear that you can buy old missile silos in the US and convert them into homes. Could toss up some solar panels, filter your own water, sounds like a fantastic place for nicenice.

I have nothing against Americans in Japan or Americans in general apart from the way they dress. If I wasn't trying to help I would tell the guy to go get a job with tepco and go clean out the reactor cores with a toothbrush. I love the way you throw logical fallacies into most arguments the either or fallacy. It is either live in a bunker or live in Fukushima. I wouldn't go and live in Fukushima for a million dollars. You haven't experienced an earthquake yet, have you? When you do let me know what you thought of it?
Go and re-watch those tsunami videos on youtube a few times, they still send a chill down my spine and welcome to Japan.

Stay out of your kitchen too! Those microwaves sure are dangerous...wouldn't want to get exposed to radiation.

And don't get on an airplane!!!!!! They................crash o_________o I'm serious. Just read the news or watch a movie or two. I get shivers just thinking about it.

No offense everyone, but they do track these forums, and they do take note of your I.P. if you talk about the situation, that's how real this is getting.

They might send the nhk guy to your house a few extra times this year, with his beefy friends... If you get my drift.

About volunteering in Tohoku, today's news has a story about volunteering with children in institutional care
http://www.japantimes.co.jp/community/2015/05/31/how-tos/foreign-volunteers-tokyo-tottori-bring-cheer-fukushima-childrens-homes/#.VWzTv3DXeK0

There is a lot of need here for opportunities for children.
