When I lived in Texas, SMS/texting wasn't a big thing, but it is now. I live in the Middle East now, and EVERYTHING is done by SMS, it seems. I'm moving to Mexico soon - what's the deal there? SMS, phone, in person only? If you need to call in sick, is a text ok, or do you have to call? Do people respond to texts? |

But I spend a lot of time with the 17 to 22 crowd. |

I would say texting is big. WhatsApp is very popular, too. Twitter is, among those who do use it. Many businesses do not respond at all to their email, so you’d have to know them before you communicate by email if you expect a response.
If you need to call in sick, you will already have checked with your employer and/or your co-workers to find out what the preferred practice is in that specific school. |

What's not used much is voice mail. On most cell phones you have to pay to listen to them so people just don't. If you are phoning and don't get an answer then send a text, rather than leave a voice mail. |

I haven't listened to a vm in ages, but I never heard of paying for them. Sure won't be doing that! |

I like whatsapp - I imagine I would be communicating mostly with 25-40 year olds, young teachers and parents of primary students. |

Whatsapp and facebook...
Work-wise, I manage a crew of teachers in Mexico City almost completely through whatsapp. Handy little app it is.
Texting seems less popular these days... |
