I just retired May 1! Yay! Ironically, my longest-held and most reasonable job in 19 years in the Gulf was my last one, in KSA. Not to say it wasn't ridiculous in some ways, but it was good enough to last six years.

I will NEVER ever set foot in an ESL/EFL classroom again. Nobody will hire me at 65 anyway. And talk about an anti-intellectual occupation.

I will live in the U.S. and probably "winter" in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

What a feeling. It's amazing and exhilirating.

Full time after graduate assistantships, it started in 1986 with:

1. State U of NY-Buffalo in Malaysia
2. Southern Illinois U in Niigata, Japan
3. Nagoya U of Commerce (Shoka Daigaku)
4. Raytheon, Jeddah
4. IPA, Jeddah
5. Dubai Women's College
6. Petroleum Institute, Abu Dhabi
7.George Mason's shell-campus in RAK
8. Marathon Oil in Equatorial Guinea
9. DynCorp International in Qassim, KSA (the highest-paid one and the longest at six years).

Before ESL/EFL, I was
1. In the US Navy
2. Associate editor and writer, Luxemboug Weekly Review
3. Collecting degrees from 1976 to '86.

I'm now never afraid of thugs in dark alleys, Islamist fanatics, or those daft, politically correct EFL nerds. As a former teacher I can just talk them to death.

Varied career, at any rate. I wowed a beautiful young woman with it the other night, but I had to pay her $300 first.

LOL... not many people will have the least interest in our teaching career.

But... Mabruk on the retirement! Enjoy yourself wherever you are hanging out for the duration.

Thanks. Yeah, and I forgot to list Foreign Student Adviser at UT Arlington in 1983-84. That's when I discovered...Asian women. Oh, my.
