The monsoons are very late in India causing great suffering. Let's just hope it doesn't turn into a typhoon that hits Oman again... but just turns and does what it is supposed to do and bring some relief to the sub-continent.

It's been upgraded again to a named cyclone (Ashobaa) as of this morning.

From the accuweather website:

"As of Tuesday morning, EDT, Tropical Cyclone Ashobaa is located approximately 340 miles south of Karachi, Pakistan. Ashobaa is moving northwest at the northwest at 10 mph. Maximum sustained winds are 50 mph with gusts to 65 mph."

From descriptions it sounds as though it shouldn't be anything like Gonu, which was such a direct hit of the largest ever measured typhoon/cyclone in that sea. As the reports say, hitting the dry coast of Oman will normally lower storm intensity quickly. This will most likely glance along the coast with the usual heavy rain and flooding. Hopefully they are better prepared this time for the storm and people stay away from the wadis and other low points.
