Hi,
I was in a financial situation similar to yours about fifteen months ago in Korea. I talked to a few schools in China through a recruiter and they would loan me a small amount off of my first paycheck to tide me over. However, this was through the recruiter so take it with a grain of salt.
I would offer two suggestions: One, why not head to the Middle East and make some decent money quickly? I am assuming you have the degrees and teaching cert to work over here.
Two, it sounds like China has been a struggle for you. If you are down to your last 1000 dollars, wouldn't it make sense to pitch your tent elsewhere? You may end up going broke in China with no jobs on the horizon. Do you really want that?
I hope you get through this rough patch.
Take care,
Murray |

I hope you are not telling any potential employers about your financial situation.
You could be setting yourself up to be used and abused. |

I've only told one recruiter/agent, which in hindsight was probably a mistake I now realize. But for all others I've been interviewing with, I don't tell them anything, just requesting that I get free accommodation.
murray1978, how did you get out of your predicament? Are you still teaching in China?
I'm now thinking of going home and just returning in September for a university or primary/high school job with low hours. From what I understand, they're relatively low stress and easy gigs, and I could use the experience. |

Hi,
My situation was similar to yours. I was in Korea and almost broke. I crashed on a friend's couch and borrowed some money to get my visa for KSA. The job was for a business visa which only took two weeks. I came to KSA and never looked back since.
I think you should head home and look for a job there. You will be safe and out of the fishbowl. |

Saudi could be an option. I would just say that you need money for the visa/medical check which can run into 1000s depending where you are. Also, with the last two gigs that I took in Saudi I didn't get out there until months after my proposed start date. It can be a waiting game at times.
Best of luck! |
