I have an interview with KISQ. They are offering what appears to be a lucrative compensation package, but I have read absolutely horrible reviews about this school.

I'd like to hear about people's experiences with this school.

I've read the same bad reviews and they seem to be desparate for teachers lately. I interviewed with them but accepted a low paying Uni job down in Yunnan instead. Sorry I don't have specifics for you but I find it kind of odd that they are always needed teachers especially in the middle of the year.

QD does have a few nice areas but it's mostly overated. The pollution is horrific when the wind isn't blowing. The apartments are quite expensive and most want 6 months rent plus deposit up front. Do you have 25000 kwai to plunk down on an apartment one months before your first pay check?

The beer is excellent and the women stunning.

Good Luck!

I had a couple friends who passed through there and warned to stay away. If you want to endure Koreans, may as well go to Korea and make the money.

My opinion of Qingdao (for a month) was rather positive. To gently disagree with the above responder, at least there are indeed some nice areas, unlike pretty much every other city in Eastern China. That fresh Qingdao Dark is mighty tasty with the fresh carcinogenic laden seafood. Personally I found the women the least attractive of anywhere in Eastern China, even after consuming many Qingdao Darks.

I taught in QD for a year and thought it as good as Dalian but a bit warmer in winter.
If you are near the sea there is a good cooling afternoon breeze in summer.
I taught at a small vocational, but salaries at the Ocean U which is probably the biggest FT employer in town, were about the same.
No knowledge of the Korean school and I always advise go with the least unknowns for your first gig.
OP are you looking at stating after NY?

It's a wonder the Chinese don't take us seriously.

They never have. At least now they have excuses not to.

Yes because Chinese men definitely don't enjoy those two things on a regular basis either.

I applied there 3 times over a period several years and never heard back from them. And this in spite of experience in Korea.

Do NOT waste your time with KISQ. Nothing more than glorified babysitting. I was there for 6 months before fleeing after finding out that I was working illegally (visitor visa over employment visa) and we didn't get paid for 2 months. That should say it all...

You were there for six months before you discovered you didn't have a work visa and were working illegally? At least you had the good sense to leave but what took you so long? You couldn't possibly have not known you were working illegally.

I had never worked in PRC before so this was a first for me.

KISQ had us go do the medical and police report for processing the visa. As my tourist visa expired, they had someone go to immigration and get new stamps. I was told this was for the employment visa. I caught on after a bit.
