Not something I want to do but...
So, the majority of jobs ask for two years of experience, I don't quite have two years of experience, I have about 16 months...
If I tell a little tiny lie on my CV and say I have two years experience, is it going to land me in shit street?
If they go through my passport they will realise that my CV isn't quite accurate........
Is it likely to cause a problem?. |

They won't go through your passport.
But they may call your previous employer - I'm presuming that they are also your reference.
TBH many places say they want 2 years but 16 months will be fine. It's what they prefer, not what they will necessarily get. They'll probably end up hiring someone with 0 experience.
Personally I'd be honest. But I doubt you'd be caught if you choose to lie. |

I agree. It's like any job ad - a 'wishlist'.
The difference being that in China an official may be looking out for school ads that don't toe the line.
Don't put date (day/month) just years i.e 2012-2013 on your CV against the job. |

I wouldn't worry about it. China is a great place for fudging, and it is unimaginable that you're going to be summoned by the headmaster and a panel of the chief administrators to 'answer for your crime'. When they ask for two years' experience it is probably just a minimal standard they haphazardly adopted and it has become widespread because they have seen it in ads they have cribbed from. Don't lose any sleep over it. |

Worrying about it isn't the issue. Lying is the issue.
Great integrity you have there. What is so desperate forcing you to leave America that you have to lie to get into China?
Sad. Such a simple thing and still believe fraud is the way to fix it. |

Really?
By Spring Break he'll have 2 years experience.
Hardly Bernie Madoff territory! |

I guess most teachers have no problem telling a "small lie" to a school, but when the tables are turned (school lies to teacher) the pitchforks come out fast. |

Pretty good example. Good to see common sense and logic for a change. |

So what you're saying, implying is the fraud and lying is acceptable, right? Where is the self-righteous attitude? You still believe that lying and fraud is A-OK? Let's see you lie on an American job application and see how far you get. I have no problem with seeing losers lose. |

And I have no problem with seeing native speaking English teachers writing English correctly, but I guess I won't be getting that here.
Isn't it also lying and fraud to pass yourself off as an English teacher when you can't express yourself properly? I've noticed this in many of your posts, along with the self-righteousness and an air of superiority, based on what, I don't know. |

If it's good teaching you are after, there are people here who are well along in their careers who will never be good teachers and the converse is true also.
However, experience is a good indicator of maturity. not foolproof but there.
The fact that OP actually asked the question is a sign of maturity IMHO. |

Is it wrong? Yes, but when demand out weighs the supply then there is some leeway. Doesn't give the employer an excuse to act like a bully however, as someone above has been hinting at. |
