"When all you've lived, you known, is gone
And miles away from moving on
It's hard to find a street to breathe
And the storm has left you wonder weak
And all that's left is all you've got
You feel alone but you know you're not

[Chorus]
Don't you ever stop, don't you ever stop, no
Keep giving all you've got, keep giving all you've got
Your heart's been broken by the pain
But you still find the peace to give away
Love wins, love wins

The sun is gonna break the clouds
And take the place of fear and doubt
Oh, and lock the way for your next step
And make the most for what is less

[Chorus]
Don't you ever stop, don't you ever stop, no
Keep giving all you've got, keep giving all you've got
Your heart's been broken by the pain
But you still find the peace to give away
Love wins, love wins
Love wins, when we learn the ...on
Love wins, when we make each other strong

[Chorus]
Don't you ever stop, don't you ever stop, no
Keep giving all you've got, keep giving all you've got
Don't you ever stop, don't you ever stop, no
Keep giving all you've got, keep giving all you've got
Your heart's been broken by the pain
But you still find the peace to give away
Love wins, love wins
Love wins, love wins
Love wins, love wins."

And the really weird thing: my marriage doesn't fele threatened at all. Who knew? Smile

"No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies
the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice,
and family. In forming a marital union, two people become
something greater than once they were. As some of
the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage
embodies a love that may endure even past death. It
would misunderstand these men and women to say they
disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do
respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its
fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned
to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s
oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the
eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.
The judgment of the Court of Appeals for the Sixth
Circuit is reversed.
It is so ordered."

Judge Kennedy for the majority

John

Depends of whose "conscience" is being consulted, doesn't it, though? Very Happy

Gandhi was, in many respects, a great man - but his religious views were not, in my opinion, among his greatest qualities.

"Religion was a crucial factor in Gandhi’s views on contraception. Gandhi’s understanding of the proper form of birth control was, we have seen, founded on self-control. But Gandhi understood continence to be impossible without recourse to God. Indeed, he said that a “moral life without reference to religion is like a house built upon sand,” and that it was possible “only with God’s grace, and God’s grace comes through ceaseless communion with Him and complete self-surrender.”

However, it's refreshing to see such a proponent of dialectical materialism agreeing with a religious conservative.

John

Gandhi was a great anti-imperialist. Despite his benighted views in other respects...

HUZZAH! I have no dog in either fight (as our friends on the Vietnam board would say) but VERY HAPPY that evolution has finally come around on these issues.

And the Confederate flag coming down in so many places so quickly. Amazing! A Summer of Enlightenment:-)

Ah, but it's exactly those "benighted views" that are relevant to this thread.

Dear Johnslat

I was holding it up as an example of the benighted views that do the rounds. It comes straight from the presumptuous folks' book of God's thoughts...

Of course God doesn't exist. That is hardly a radical claim these days. That's why I am putting forth one of more dialectical import.

All marriage should be banned. It is nothing but bourgeois sentimentality at best, and at worst legalised prostitution. In all cases, just thinly disguised property protection law.

If we truly want equality, get rid of the whole concept. We won't need it at all when all property is banned too!

Destroy this evil, and we will truly be free. A new age of peace and prosperity for all will be ushered in. For all!

Now that is equality.

Dear Sasha,

Well, I'm willing to settle for all married people - gay and straight - being "legalized prostitutes."

Dear Johnslat

So long as you realise that you are living in the final days of western civilization - rather like the collapse of the Roman empire - then I hope you enjoy the servitude that the Piggies have foisted upon you.

From under the rubble a better way of life will emerge. No more slave labour, stifling marriage convention or property laws. No more moral confusion that proclaims happiness in prostitution.

Get ready for dignity and ideological correctness - whether you are willing to settle for it or not!

With Communist greetings
