Hi,

Is anyone in the process of moving from Vietnam to China? Or is there anyone who was in Vietnam and has moved to China?

I'm interviewing for a job at a university in China. If I got the job, the university would assist me as much as they can with the China work visa process, I assume. But I’m concerned, from what I’ve read/heard, that for the China visa I'd need to fly back from Vietnam to my home country (UK) and wait there for however long it takes to process the Z-visa (drop off docs and passport; pick up the visa weeks/months later)… I couldn’t afford to do this.

I wouldn’t want to accept a job that I might not able to make. I don’t want to waste the University’s time. The DOS seems like a good person; it is late in the day for recruiting for September term starts.

From knowledge/experience, is there ANY way around this? Have you heard of it being possible to liaise with a Chinese embassy outside of one’s home country/in Hanoi? Is it possible to remain outside the UK while my z-visa is processed through the Chinese Embassy in London? Would the z-visa process require my passport through the entire processing time? Could I send my docs to the Chinese Embassy in London, and then pick up the z-visa from a Chinese embassy elsewhere/in Hanoi?

(Sorry for the machine gun round of questions: I thought it best to ask them all now rather than further back n forth correspondence)

I suspect there might be no definitive answers but any advice (or experience shared) would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
(ps I've posted this on the China forum, but wondered if moving from Vietnam, specifically, to China might contain its own set of rules/processes; if anyone has been in a similar situation and dealt with the Chinese Embassy in Hanoi...)

I suspect it depends on what visa/residency permit you have in Vietnam.

If you are on the short term 3 month visa or DL visa of some kind, it is unlikely they will assist you. If you have a blue card residence permit then they'd probably process it as you are a legal resident here.

Good luck

Thanks for getting back to me, BenE.

Yes, I'd thought that legal residence might help. Sadly, when I had to quit my job here and go back to the UK for a few months, I lost my residence permit. I came back to look for work again but right now I'm only on a tourist visa.

The China job application was on a whim/back-up plan while looking for work in Vietnam. I'll go into the Chinese Embassy on Monday and see what they say, but I guess that door's closed for me, and I'll be staying here. Oh well, certainly could be worse places : )
