Can anyone tell me about Yuxi Teacher's College. I just received an offer from them to teach there and would like to know something about it. |

I am coming to the end of a contract at a private school just outside of Yuxi. My husband and I have been here for the past academic year and have really enjoyed this area very much. Yuxi is a fairly wealthy city as it is home to the HongTa cigarette factory - the largest in Asia I have been told. The city is small for China less than 1/2 million living in the city itself. The expat community is very small and we all centre our activities around the Cafe fin Du Monde.
We have been in China for almost 3 years and have liked Yuxi the best. It's close to Kunming - 80kms south and an express bus leaves every hour to and from Kunming. The climate is remarkable once you get used to the altitude. That got to me in the form of headaches and took a few weeks to aclimatise.
I don't know much about the college itself but I believe that living on campus is a hassle for some who dislike to restrictions of a curfew. Nor can I comment on the students or the teaching you will be expected to do. I have heard the salaries are not that good but then Yunnan salaries in general are lower than elsewhere in China.
Yunnan is a wonderful province. I think the best. Diverse interesting and easy to get around.
Good luck and I hope this helps a little. |
