Hello, all. Where are the good jobs in the UAE? Are they mostly gone due to the phasing out of prep year programs?
Thanks for the info.

Hiring for prep year teaching positions with the major government universities started slowing down a couple of years ago. Openings at other institutions get posted on their respective websites; however, competition for those positions is high. On the other hand, K-12 international school opportunities are a good bet if you're a qualified/licensed teacher. |

Thank you all for the info! I don't have much knowledge of K-12 teaching abroad. Most of my time has been in university/military contractor positions in Saudi. I'm wondering if it would be worth my time to get a teaching license. I'm assuming a CELTA and M.A. in TESOL won't be good enough for the Abu Dhabi Public Schools. I'm also curious how the students would be. After teaching allegedly mature college-aged students in Saudi, I'm not optimistic about Emirati middle school or high school boys....
If you all have taught in international or public schools in the Gulf, I'd be interested in hearing about your experiences.

The majority of posters on this forum teach adults, so you may not get much in the way of detailed responses.
A CELTA and MA TESOL won't cut it. You would need to hold a teaching license/certification from your home country and have a couple of years of public school English language teaching experience under your belt. See Seek Teachers, Teach Away, and Footprints for actual job ads and info on teaching in public and private international schools in the UAE. Teach Away is a major recruiter for UAE public schools. |
