|
|
My cousin Jamie back home calls me last night to give me the great news that because of "the new amendment" to the China visa law he will be joining me in China in September! He has a 2 year vocational degree in diesel engine repair and some yo-yo recruiters from two different Beijing schools told him "Don't worry the new law lets you work your first 90 day probationary period on an F Visa" and as a "teaching intern" he will never need a Z visa.
Why can't these fucking recruiters just tell the truth and stop putting other people at risk? THERE IS NO CHANGE OR AMENDMENT TO NEITHER THE VISA LAW NOR THE MANDATORY LEGAL TEACHING REQUIREMENTS! Since September of 2013 you still must have the below to legally teach in China without risk of arrest/deportation:
1) A bachelor degree in any major
2) A Z visa in your passport from the day you arrive to work - even tutor.
3) Be at least 21 years old
4) Fluent English Skills
5) 2 Years verifiable previous work experience
6) A police certificate if you want to work in Beijing
In addition, some school chains like EF may require a TEFL/TESOL certificate, but this is not required by the government. |

Sorry to say, but your cousin and the recruiters are right....
It's standard practice in Shanghai and it sounds like it is in Beijing too. Maybe, any of the big cities where they can't find enough people with all the necessary requirements for a Z visa.
Any westerner NS will do, get them a F visa as visiting lecturer, educational speaker and let 'em loose on a classroom. They're not TEACHERS, heavens no, just 'interns' or 'assistants. |

Actually my cousin is mistaken according to SAFEA who confirmed yesterday that no Province is allowed to bend the rules. They also confirmed that the PSB is no longer allowed to give warnings and are instructed to arrest and deport violators with "Zero Tolerance"
Here's the national law guys http://www.SAFEA.gov.cn Provinces can require more than the national mandatory requirements - but not less. |
