Has anyone - or know anyone who is an English teacher who was been able to buy their own small place in Spain or get a mortgage? Am just interested in what those teachers do, who have spent most of their life teaching in Spain, when they get to retirement. One reason I left the EU was because of this. I can't imagine the Spanish pension being enough to cover rent and living once one reaches of age, even if they get the full amount.

Most teachers I know in this kind of situation are just working in the Middle East and saving up. Property still isn't that expensive in parts of France and Spain. I was recently in France and saw one bedroom apartments in the town centre for under 100,000 euros.
With some savings, help from family, inheritance, or a small mortgage you could buy something without too much fuss. |
