Hello,

I am moving to Vietnam and have two offers for TEFL positions in Hue and Ho Chi Minh.
They are both similar packages but I wondered if someone could advise me which is the better area?

Thanks Smile

Well, you could probably do your own research to find out which city is more suitable for you. However, I would be very concerned about employment opportunities if your job didn't work out in Hue. Many, many people have (or have had) problems working with Vietnamese employers/centres/schools. Having said that, you may be fine and be as happy as Larry.

I would never move to a smaller city given the limited employment opportunities, but if you don't mind going through the rigmarole and expense of moving, then it may be okay to give it a shot.

Having visited both, but never lived in either, I would choose HCMC. Hue is boring and the weather generally sucks. Its located on the wrong side of the mountains, so it gets tons of rain. If you're going to consider a smaller town, definitely opt for some of the nicer coastal cities like Danang, Vung Tau, Nha Trang, etc.

HCMC for a first job. Then you can try for one of the smaller and nicer places on the coast.

If your Hue job is a disaster then you will almost certainly have to leave Hue anyway. In HCMC you will have many more options.

Only go to Hue if it is EZ Learn. Almost no other company is any good. Especially AMA.
