He will get 600 lashes (50 lashes for each bottle of alcohol), plus 12 months in the black box of Riyadh. |

Nope. But I was allowed to walk the "no man's land" between Saudi and Jordan. Not sixteen miles, probably less than one, but I wasn't smuggling anything and greeted warmly by Saudi guards. I didn't tarry or long examine the shot up car wrecks, but did enjoy the rarity of it. |

I can't imagine too many people walking 16 miles in that heat, especially with the reflective water grilling you.
How much of his sentence do you think was due to him being a Saudi citizen? Would a Westerner get the same lashes, or is iit because it's haram?
Do teachers often bring a bottle or two back from Bahrain hidden in the boot? Or is that a very bad idea? |

I walked the short distance from Iraqi border to the Iranian border, (Baghdad-Kermanshah). Even though I had a valid Iranian visa issued in London, the Iranians would not let us enter since the border was permanently closed due to bad relations with Iraq. Walked back to the Iraqi border, but they refused us due to the cancelation of visa when exiting, (single entry visa). Now, truly in no man's land. As I speak a little Farsi, I went back to the Iran side and set up camp on the veranda of the Iranian border buildings. The Iranians were very friendly, supplied a little food, endless tea and other "refreshments".
After a couple of weeks, a busload (one of those tarted up jangly buses), of Pakistanis returning from Haj shows up. Being Hajjis, they were given a Hajji dispensation and were allowed in. Upon leaving, the Iranian guards looked at us and pointed to the bus. We were on our way.
