Hello there,

Due to my partner landing a good job at a kindergarten in Nanjing, I am now looking exclusively in Nanjing for a job teaching adults.
My ideal job would be a university position, but I have left it a bit late and they are quite hard to find at the moment.
I would also be interested in working at a training center, or possibly a high school with older students.
I'm a 27 year old native English speaker from New Zealand. I have a Masters Degree in Psychology, a 120 hour TEFL certificate, and 2 years experience teaching psychology, statistics, and academic English writing at my local university.

I've been sending in applications to any ads that fit my criteria, but I thought it might be beneficial to post here as well.

So if anybody knows of any positions available at the moment teaching adults in Nanjing (especially university positions), I'd be very appreciative if you could send the details my way.

The 10 series on the left sidebar are education establishments in Nanjing.
Most aren't links so you will have to go to Google to maybe bring up a webpage with a link to 'Employment' or 'International'.
And of course you don't know which schools are still hiring.
But still better than sitting and waiting!

The statistics caught my eye. If you could translate that, and back it up, into teaching mathematics, you will be swamped with offers for the high school college prep programs. Fantastic money (unless the recruiter and headmaster skim you) and lots of time off, but dealing with spoiled underachievers makes it possibly not worth it. I know as my only non teaching of adults was with such a program. Just another option.

Something else that helps is if you find a lead through a site like ST is to use the school's name, if available, and track down their site. Contact them directly through the site. This seems to get many more responses. No idea why despite a couple theories.

Have you applied to Wall Street or Web? You will not be getting much time off, but salaries are higher (though pay per class actually comes out not so great). Wall Street only deals with adults. Technically Web too, but they let quality slip at some of them to make extra money on the teens which ruins the school. The Webs have traditionally been easier to get a job in. Wall Street used to be rather difficult, but I know through personal experience and through a few friends that work there that they are rather desperate for teachers (at least in some of their centers).

China is a lot of winging it.

The other down side about high schools, and for that matter, a lot of the universities, is that they are outside of the city center in rather bleak neighborhoods. Not poor, just this grey energy lacking characterless sprawl which is Eastern China. As one almost always live on campus, going to be hard to spend a lot of time with the girlfriend if she is in the city center. Some of the high schools and universities are more central of course, but it limits your options.

Wall Street gives you extra pay for an apartment, which would be good for choosing where to live. The downside to that you have to pay a lot up front in China for a flat, and if things go sour with the employer, you are sort of tied to the location.

Web gives apartments unless that has changed. When I worked for them I was given an excellent three bedroom one in a fantastic location. It was luck as I followed a Chinese American princess that was the daughter of good friends of the owner. Generally they are adequate once you get acclimated to Chinese living standards.
