|
|
Havent posted for a while and it may show!
Im new to the field of TEFL and am seeking advice on materials (books, workbooks, software, audio, ect.) that are receptive to Saudi students.
I would like to know what books or series of books would any experienced teacher in ESL recommend teaching children and young adult Saudi students. Also, please recommend materials that can be used for assessment or placement testing.
I have visited a couple of publishers such as www.altaesl.com & www.delta-systems.com and have been overwhelmed with the amount of material to make a decision.
Excuse me if my request may seem redundant, but if in anyones spare time, could post a recommended book list Id greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

Sorry Bindair Dundat, not interested in the link! Please try to stick to the subject. I am simply looking for good teaching material.
Thanks

That is *great* teaching material. The guy is a wonderful writer. He has a piercing wit and fantastic control of the language. What a model for Saudi students! The material is also topical and riveting.
I'd also suggest "Sleeping With The Devil" by Robert Baer.

These are the best I've found for beginners. I'm in Jeddah. I don't know what's available elsewhere, but I here the selection is much better in Riyadh. Don't know anything about placement and assessment.
Oxford Picture Dictionary
Word by Word Picture Dictionary
Vocabulary in Use - Elementary
Side by Side
Start with English
Look, Listen, and Learn - Book One
New Concept English - First Things First
A couple of good bilingual textbooks I recommend:
Simplified English for All Ages, by Adnan Naim and Fahmy Khader
Speak English Fluently, by Ahmad Mamdough Al-Saghir |

Wheres Spot?
Few others come to mind.
In my short spell in Jeddah, most of my time was spent blacking out unsuitable pictures (ie everything), photocopying, cutting and pasting.
Why not write your own materials? That way, you can avoid the horrors of bringing butchered or horribly-outdated materials to the classroom. (First Things First? Good grief.) |
