Does anyone know the costs involved in crossing the border into other GCC countries by road (specifically Qatar or UAE) in a car that you own? And are the fees reduced if your current car insurance in Saudi includes GCC coverage? |

Be aware that GCC coverage on Saudi insurance applies only to YOUR car. In other words, when you get to the border you will be forced to buy 3rd party insurance. This is at least true for Bahrain and Qatar which I've driven to.
If you are going to Bahrain regularly, I recommend you buy insurance for a longer period than the usual weekend minimum. It's a much better deal. Ask at the booth for the various prices.
Qatar was, as far as I remember, pretty pricey both for the visa (yes, UK citizens need a visa even if they are GCC residents) and for the mandatory insurance. A final twist is that you have to pay by credit card. No cash unlike Bahrain.
Not driven into UAE, Kuwait or Oman (new road shortly to be opened connecting Oman and Saudi BTW), so no info on them. |

Sorry... I forgot to mention that I didn't put actual prices because it's been months and months since I've paid for insurance, so I can't actually remember. |
