Sorry that this isn't teaching-related, but I thought I'd ask on the forum as you're bound to know! How do you travel between major cities like Barcelona / Valencia, or travel long distances, say from Barcelona to Seville? Is it just me, or is the Spanish national rail service a bit complicated? (Many thanks in advance for any tips!)

For all the issues I had with Spain, the rail service I found to be very easy to deal with. You go the Renfe website http://www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/ put in your destinations, select your time and pick up your tickets from the machines or the teller at the station. It's cheaper to buy them ahead of time, obviously. Take the AVE for the fastest service, although I took the six-hour slow train from Madrid to Valencia and took in the lovely scenery without any regrets!

I got the bus a few times to Salamanca etc. I have a mate who just took the bus from Barcelona to Madrid and he said it was fine.

I found the train was a very good way of travelling between big cities and their websites easy to use (same for buses). If I remember correctly, you could even print off your ticket yourself, and there were lots of deals to be had if you booked ahead of time.
