So, I have a friend at PMU and it's recent common knowledge that for a month now there's a teenage boy (non-western) who lies on the stairs of residential units where western, single female professors live, and pleases himself. Over the past month, this has been reported to PMU on more than one occasion. This weekend he was at it again and the female professor who spotted him confronted him and went to the compound office. Apparently, no action was ever taken from the previous complaints. From what I hear this is a big teenage boy, not some young weakling. Should I be shocked that nothing happened from the previous complaints? Due to the persistence of the professor this weekend, the university met with his father. Will this be enough? I doubt it. I mean no disrespect, this is an honest question - if the boy had been a western boy, perhaps even white, and was doing that and spotted by an Arab female professor, does anyone doubt that that boy and his family would have been dealt with more swiftly, or perhaps even removed from the compound?

Ah, juvenile males. Too bad my Egyptian friend Khadija doesn't live there; she would have done some major damage to that boy with her shoe! Laughing

Anyway, if the university's meeting with the dad doesn't get results, here are some options:

1. The women should take their complaint to Arab News to go public with it (while remaining anonymous). That would likely get results. Or...
2. A group of the women, with cameras poised, should ambush the offender when they catch him in the act and threaten to put the photos on Facebook, or worse, deliver them to his parents. (Or to his grandma!) Or...
3. If the stairs aren't carpeted, throw a bucket of cold water on him. Or...
4. A spritz of homemade pepper spray is a good deterrent and will quell his urges. (Hey, he was warned.) Twisted Evil

But seriously, the university's involvement will likely take care of the issue.

I was followed back to my apartment block by two seperate gays/guys, about 17 yo. One was evidently very excited and the second was almost demanding it. I told them both to EFF OFF in an aggressive manner. The sudden fear on the first one's face was really comical and then he legged it. The second one got angry and started chucking stones at the doorway. I was planning how to give him a good kicking when a neighbour came by and 'disturbed' him, so he legged it too.

What can you do?

The authorities will deal with it if you report it. Sexual misdemeanours are punished - usually.

Too bad there aren't a few North African women teachers there. They would would have taken care of it quite efficiently the first time they caught him... all that is needed is an Egyptian or two to slap the crap out of him.

I think the photos on Facebook... to the newspaper... and to his grandmothers would be quite effective.
