|
|
Hi all,
I just attended an all-day hiring session for a major, private company in Japan. I made it to the final, interview stage, and now have to wait ten days to find out if I will be hired.
Do you think it is appropriate to send the interviewer a "Thank You" email? (We have already previously emailed prior to the hiring session). Or should I hold off since he told me that he would send me a follow up email in ten days?
I am extremely excited about the opportunity to work for this company, so I want to make sure I do everything I can to leave a great impression. However, I don't want to come off too strongly, either.
Any advice or feedback would be appreciated! Thank you |

As you've been told that a follow-up email to you should be forthcoming within 10 days, I think it'll seem a little pushy to not be patient, plus you don't need to express written thanks simply for interviews (except in the context of NOT getting the job, and thus wanting to appear gracious in defeat etc) - save the thanks for after they hopefully offer you a position. You've done all you really can for the meantime to get the job. But obviously, if those 10 days and more elapse and you still haven't heard anything, then by all means email them thanking them for the interview and politely asking them what the outcome was for you. |

I spend half my life interviewing people (well, it feels like that sometimes) and on the rare occasions I get a thank you note from an interviewee I always appreciate it.
It shouldn't be too long, just a quick note to say thank you for their time and the opportunity and you look forward to hearing from them in 10 days.
I wouldn't get into trying to sell yourself again ('after meeting you I'm sure I am perfect for your company', that's their decision, not yours), but just a simple thank you. And it keeps your name in their minds.
But every company is different... |

If you mean something other (i.e. much more) than an eikaiwa then I'd say Harp's advice is fine, but if it's just an eikaiwa then why push too hard on that particular door LOL. |

Thank you both for your feedback. As Harp suggested, I think I will send a short email thanking him for taking the time to meet with me and also state that I look forward to hearing from him in ten days. Hopefully this will be appreciated and keep my name top of mind as he continues to interview other candidates! |
