I would like some advice about the best schools to apply for in Dubai for a female English teacher position for K12 (preferably middle 5th grade or thereabouts) and any other advice you may have for someone with a family who wishes to relocate there. Thanks

When are you planning to relocate because most good schools have staff in place, which will put you at the mercy of some of the less desirable schools? Why relocate to Dubai if I may ask? What are your qualifications? What nationality, believe me it matters as far as salary?

Dubai and the UAE are expensive to live, I am going on my 3rd year here. Saudi is cheaper but of course less of a social life but you can save money. Oman is cheaper but salaries are not that high.

Take a look at Teach Away, Seek Teachers, and Footprints, which recruit for k-12 and international schools for the region. Also GEMS Education. Positions are likely to be filled for this school year. For the better employers, you'd need a related degree in addition to both a relevant teaching license/certification and experience from your home country.

Thanks both for your replies. I am thinking for next year but since I have 2 young kids I want to start planning soon and getting as much info as possible. I am British, with BA, CELTA, DELTA and a Masters but not a PGCE so this could be a big problem potentially. Maybe I should look at Saudi too? The move would be for the money and experience. The reason I chose Dubai is because my husband, who is not a teacher, could also find work (who you know, you know).

There are usually plenty of adjunct TEFL opportunities in the UAE, which get filled by expat residents (already on a spouse's visa). However, the pay is so-so and the benefits are quite lean.

What's your husband's line of work? He might have a better chance of getting a job with the type of benefits needed for a family of four.
