Hey, it's good to be back on Dave's! It's been a long time. I was a teacher in Shenzhen from 2004-2006.
And I may return to China in the next six months. Question is: how can I go about getting a SUBJECT teaching job? I have a master's in geography and a CELTA, and while I know I can teach English, what I really want to teach is geography or something resembling it.
Any thoughts? Thanks! |

I've seen many subject teaching jobs that don't require you to be certified in your home country, and they still offered very good packages. I think your chances of getting interviews are high if you search wide and far on the internet. |

If that's your main interest, then seriously consider pursuing a license to teach geography while you're still in the US. That said, do an Internet search on geography teacher China jobs for current job openings (there are a few) as well as info on teaching geography in China. |

| There's no AP class for geography which might make things a bit difficult. Human geography is an AP class but not sure how much you would learn getting a master's in geography that relates to that...I think it's more anthropology-related. But they might hire you because they both say geography...who knows. |

| Just hit up the job boards. I see them advertising quite often for subjects teachers, and if you can do AP/IB then it's even more of a bonus. Masters and all of that jazz should do the trick! |
