I am amazed and shocked that so many people have expressed interest in going to Saudi Arabia to teach English. Why do you want to go? Is money that important to you?
I can imagine that people are leaving in droves, I could be wrong since I'm living in Japan. Do you feel that for excitement or is it something else. I'd like to know.
For those of you who are still in Saudi, is it as bad as the media is portraying it? Why are you staying or are you packing as we speak? |

If you have a yahoo email account, you can access "expatsinsaudiarabia" in yahoo groups to get insights from people there. Check out post #'s 6080 and 6087 in particular. Things MAY be WORSE than the media is reporting. |

We are down below half authorized strength. No new Westerners in over a year.
I mostly blame the company for not paying the recruiters.
In any case, does ANYONE have any inbounds? |

That's probably not unique to Paul's institution, so I'm a bit surprised that there aren't more job postings for Saudi jobs. The ones I've seen lately indicate that the Saudi employers STILL don't get it...the salaries are the same they've been for years (JIC, for example)! I don't think they'll ever get it. There's a premium to be paid to people for accepting the risk. For me, I don't think there's a salary high enough the way things are in the Magic Kingdom now. But, to each his/her own. It's a personal decision. |
