Pick one:

1. A natural inclination toward nerdiness

2. Boredom

3. Retirement

4. A combination of 2 and 3

5. A keen, inquiring mind

6. These topics are innately interesting and compelling, and only a dull fool
would find them uninteresting

In my final year of school, it was Wittgenstein's works that steeled my interest in linguistics. A quote I might apply to this OP...

The limits of my language are the limits of my mind. All I know is what I have words for.
― Ludwig Wittgenstein

And there are a hundred more as applicable, but I try to live by...

Only describe, don't explain.
