This isn't unusual. From my experience, most university direct hires typically get about 9 working days off for both Eids anyway. |

No, it isn't "unusual" in the sense that it's never happened before. But it's the first time this has occurred in at least 5 years that I can remember, so it is unusual in that sense.
Also:
.....This info was really posted for people who left the Kingdom on holiday and might not get the information any other way. If they see the posting, they might still have time to change their return tickets and get an extra week vacation that way.
(The news item wasn't posted because I thought it was "unusual"...it was posted because the info would no doubt benefit many teachers. Whether the King's action was "unusual" or not is totally and absurdly beside the point).
.....There are drawbacks, however. This extra days off will simply mean that most schools will have to extend their school year......taking away 3 days from the summer vacation because officially, schools have to be in attendance for a certain number of days a year, no exception. (The employer may instead prefer to have three 6-day weeks between now and the end of the school year (5/2016) to make up for the "lost" 3 days thereby leaving the length of the summer vacation untouched.)
......Another drawback is that teaching schedules - many already made up for the 1st and 2nd semesters - will now have to be changed. For example, mid-term exams, supposedly to be given within a couple of weeks will have to have the dates adjusted to the "new" schedule causing all kinds of "complications". |

Extra holidays are fine provided that you are paid for them, but what about the new recruits at TTC who are only paid for the days that they teach? |
