Hey everybody,
I'm a 24 year old college student and I want to teach English in Russia. I have read that Russia doesn't require a degree to get a work visa to teach English, but I have been looking for jobs and all the ones I have seen list a Bachelor's Degree as a requirement. So will I be able to get a job without a degree? As I said earlier I am attending college, but I don't have a degree yet. I was wanting to take a year off college to teach English because I want to see if I like it. I have been thinking about majoring in ESL and getting some real world experience with it will help me decide if it's what I want to do. So does anybody know of any schools that might hire somebody without a degree if they have a tefl certification? Thanks |

You will occasionally see summer teaching jobs in Russia advertised here and on other sites. I am quite sure one of those will enable you to test out teaching without a degree, although I would be surprised if you got a work visa. However, three months over the summer should give you a taste of what teaching is like. |

It is possible to find work without a degree - even schools that ask for one may become desperate and accept less. You are unlikely to find work without some sort of teaching qualification - preferably a CELTA or equivalent. |

That's kinda what I was thinking, but wasn't sure. Also, what certifications are equivalent to the CELTA?

That sounds good, i'll keep an eye out for summer job postings. I plan to visit Russia this summer anyway so that would be perfect for me. |

120 hours ONSITE (not online/blended) and with supervised teaching practice with real students (not peer trainees or other). These courses aren't substantially cheaper than a CELTA and don't carry the brand recognition in most cases, so they don't really save you much. |

So it's probably better just to get a celta, right? |
