How long can I expect to have to wait for my visa to be sent to me by ADVETI? I've been waiting over a month now and every time I write to them they just say that 'it is still being processed' and they'll sort out flights once it is issued. Just to clarify I'm from the UK and am going to work as an English teacher.

I have the same problem with ADVETI but working as an English teacher in Bahrain. Been waiting now for about the same amount of time (longer if you start from the time I signed the pre- or initial contract.)

PM me for more info if you like.

To the previous two posters it seems like the answer to your question is 'how long's a piece of string'. There is quite a bit of info on expatblog forum about this process.

I've just been given an initial offer by Adveti. I'm not sure what job though - I thought it was English teacher but the interview guy said I would be training other teachers. After a bit of research it seems like this is a 'cluster teacher'?

Are you worried about all the negative comments this company receives? Is there anyone at Adveti who isn't suffering what seems to be a terrible environment with horrible management, students and workload? I don't mind a lot of classes, working the occasional Saturday, and I reckon I can get the class on side.

To be honest I'm not bothered about the negative comments about the job itself. That's something I can deal with when I get there. I've worked in the gulf before and am used to the BS that goes with it. I've just never been messed around like this before I go out somewhere - it's now nearly 2 months since both me and my wife quit our jobs in London and all we get is a 'hopefully next week your visa ready'. It's crazy.

You quit your UK job BEFORE getting your visa and contracts settled?!

Memo to all teachers interested in working in the UAE: NEVER throw in your job at home until you are 200 percent sure that you have ALL the paperwork in the proverbial bag.

Back in 2005 I didn't even hand in my notice for my 'homeland' job until I was actually in the UAE.

Over cautious, perhaps, but a pal of mine was told to go back home as soon as he arrived because his college had apparently 'over-recruited'!

Ditto secretsquirrel's advice.

The UAE is in dire need of qualified, k-12 teachers, if that's any consolation.

Got the visa at last and out in one piece. Worth the wait - great to be here!
