Does anyone have the skinny on Shantou University, in Guandong Province?

One teacher that I met there told me the university was 'First Tier' but then went on to tell me that it was 'at the bottom of the First Tier' group of universities.

One thing they do have which is impressive, is a state of the art library, reputed to be one of the best in Asia, thanks to a very wealthy benefactor from the Shantou area. They also have a spiffing new Medical College Building, and they are building an international style sports stadium. Again - money is no object there, so the facilities appear to be excellent.

I think the hiring process is very competitive, because (if qualified) the salary could be interesting.

Although I am happy at my present job, I cannot rule out other possibilities next year, but also have to be realistic in thinking that this might be difficult, because I am approaching Chinese retirement age.
