Or even a charmer type who had a special charisma. Then there are the types that like to touch you alot(hands, arms etc.).

I'm talking about the kind of situations that sort of make you nervous in anticipation of the encounter. Despite being teachers we are human after all. These interactions occur everywhere.

I once had a teenage boy who fit into all of these categories. Completely innocent of course but a strange feeling nonetheless to watch him sort of flirt with me.

I've found this pretty common but not a problem as my students are only around for a month or two on study tours.

Thankfully the touchy-feely student is rare. I find that kind of situation very uncomfortable. I guess it's pretty normal for teenage boys to develop a crush on a female teacher.

I adopt these boys as my 'sons' so they know I consider myself a mother figure to them. My son is 16 so I can get away with this easily with teenagers. I get lots of emails and texts addressed to mummy these days!

Well, I don't dig boys, but some of the university nymphets I teach here in Shanghai can be quite, um, [/i]distracting.

Just sign me Humbert Humbert.

Yes I have, and it hurts for oh so many reasons. As a teacher, you must remain ethical, but at the same time just as the OP stated, we are after all, only human.

I have students that are fascinated by the hair on my arm or chest or my big belly. It's usually the boys that will come to me and touch me (the girls are too . . . shy? polite? demure?) but obviously not in a sexual way. They just love to rub my stomach or feel the arm hairs. I guess I am just so different than them that they can't help themselves!

Laodeng, that's the main reason I don't want to teach University students. I'm not sure I'd be able to help myself.

I think I'll stick with primary kids until I've got the 'young free and single' stage of my life out of the way.

It's a question of age difference, isn't it?

Precocious students of the opposite sex might attempt at manipulating you by being a wee bit too showy; while they might make all the false moves that you may or may not (mis-)interpret, you still have a chance at remaining ethical if you keep a cool head.
Those students will hardly go beyond that - every step beyond has to be taken by you, and that's the only risk, but a risk not worth taking...

Then there are the little ones who, as others said, touch you all over - in total innocence. Yes, the attraction of members of a different species...

I have a little troll in one class who has a crush on me and is forever making rude comments...bugs me to no end.

When I first started teaching, I was 23 and I had a boy in a grade 12 class who was quite attractive. He was 18...not that much of a difference. He was a cutie!

Now, these 18 year old boys creep me out. I guess with age comes wisdom...or fear. Not sure which! Wink

I think it's natural to be attracted in a physical way to members of the opposite sex, but I suppose someone has to say that to actually consider having a relationship with someone below the age of 18-20 is very strange. Generally speaking, it might screw up their tiny little minds something awful.

However, if they are a consenting adult, well...

Funny enough, a few of the Laowais in my town were discussing this yesterday.

I find myself in a peculiar position because I teach at a teacher's college here and about 85% of the students are females between 19 and 23.
I am also the only "young" foreigner around as most of the other teachers are over 50..... It can be hard.

My first week, some of the students managed to get my home phone number and started calling me at 7 A.M. on a saturday to say "Hello, I like your class..." I promptly changed that phone number.
The Following week, I started finding little gifts outside my door..... and it just kept getting weirder for a little while.

after 3 months, we got to the point where I don't have to beat them with a stick to get some fresh air but there is the occasional times when one or two of them that I particularly fancy look so stunning that I wish I was not their teacher.....

The weirder part is that they are not deterred by the fact that I am married......

Who hasn't? There were some real fit teachers in our old school that were stunning. Trying to keep your hands off itself requires a certain amount of rehab!

...it's a same they don't have the mind to match, hey Jo?

Nolefan, is it really possible to 'promptly change a phone number' in the People's Republic of China???

Just curious.
