So I'm planning to switch back to a uni (hopefully a better one than last) after teaching at an 'international' high school for the last year. Just can't take the management here anymore and due to some changes with Kindle Unlimited I want to give writing try again.
There's only been 1 uni advertisement in Qingdao (where I would like to work). Almost everyone hiring there seems to be training centers or some high schools from wuxi posting in the wrong section.
Is it too early? Doesn't seem like it could be too late. For March of next year.
The one job seems fairly nice. 9k/month, free housing, but probably only half pay during vacation. |

| I don't think it's too early. There probably are schools who don't yet realize that they need someone for Spring, but some probably already know. Since the paperwork takes more time these days, it's probably just about the right time to start. Maybe send out some feelers this week and send more in another week or two if there isn't much response. 9k seems good for a uni in general terms, but yes, check the whole offer. |

Seriousteachers.com is a barometer of what's happening.
A quick look at a 'Qingdao' search didn't show any uni jobs.
Plenty of High School and private training centre jobs.
If you want to get busy then as the prev poster suggests some quiet prospecting could be the way to go.
Schools have less vacancies at Feb start and being Chinese NY hiring staff are not on campus over the holiday.
Just check timeanddate Chinese calendar as I have an idea Chinese NY is earlier in 2016, than 2015.

Clarification:
Chinese NY is 8 Feb 2016
It was 19 Feb this year, so a week and a half approx earlier. |

Yeah, terrible timing for me. I finish work on January 21 and my girlfriend will visit her family for the new year so...so much for a nice long vacation somewhere.
There's a couple unis I know that are supposed to be awesome to work at in that area so will send out feelers to them.
Saw a joint venture paying awesome wages but seems they want a master's or doctor's in the arts...mentioned creative writing in particular. Who the hell gets a master's in creative writing? I can't even think of an author who has more than a bachelor's except for a few ex-lawyers. |

I worked at the Hotel Management College but only about 8 FTs there, so not much Spring turnover. The bigger places like Ocean have mega FTs so bound to lose some at NY.
I liked QD - a little milder (but not much) than Dalian where I was previously.

Iowa weeps.
But having chosen a technical writing concentration, I've been as guilty of knocking the degree. It hasn't been as practical since the late 60s, after there had been a short-story market through the 50s. I recall Vonnegut mentioning that market drying up. Publications like Saturday Evening Post. What writers earn since the expansion of the web is notorious. Here are two articles to recently address writing for hire from Rumpus.com and Autostraddle.com, the author of the former has an MA. |
