| Go to the international school district of any tier 1 city and hang out in the local bars or hangout places. I got my first international school job from a guy I met at an outdoor barbeque restaurant. |

| Sounds fun. Is applying from overseas a bit of a detriment? |

FWIIW, the previous poster was probably correct if you want a good job, but then again, might not be anything available at that International School, and things have changed with the better Chinese Unis and Schools demanding criminal checks and authentic degrees and TESLs and even Certified Teaching Degrees.
I've found good fortune teaching at 3 different universities and I acquired all thru internet research and speaking/emailing former and current teachers on conditions and whatnot. If the references are good on line, you can expect the conditions to meet with your satisfaction, or so I've found. Best of luck. Don |

I'm glad to hear that they some schools seem to be respecting related qualifications these days.
I'm an MA TESOL grad who's interested in going back to the city life. I'm drawn towards Shanghai. If anyone has any recommended schools in that area (particularly universities) I would love to hear it. I'm also not sure about when to apply - I would be looking for something from late March and on if I were to make the plunge.
Still a little ignorant on the scene in China. Starting my research now. |

| I found two great jobs in China over the last 4 years and both were free and came with Z visa and paid more than 12,000 a month. They were on a White List that gets published by teachers every year. Just Google "China School White List for 2016" and you should be able to find it. Good luck! |

Not necessarily. You can TRY to contact the schools directly, but that doesn't guarantee that you won't be working with a recruiter who has a school email address. Some in the forum made bad choices early on and have nothing good to say about recruiters.
If you put your resume up on a public job board where anyone can find it, your chances of getting shafted by some like Frank Zhang are quite high.
Try Dave's (never used it), or esljobs.com. To see what is paid all over China, subscribe to abroadchina.org. I can't endorse the latter for actually getting a job because I have never applied from that website. You will, however, be able to select a province and see jobs offered by every type of school imaginable, some good, some flaky.
Okay. You got free advice from me, now go do your own homework (e.g. apply to dozens of schools to get a copy of as many contracts as possible, and read as many esl forums as possible).
Don't take any one person's word for anything because what is true in one part of China for one person may be thoroughly untrue in another part of China for another. Find out for yourself.
Good luck |
