|
|
I have just been contacted by someone from this website. They called my phone and left a message since I was at work teaching..
I contacted via e-mail and the lady says she has a position for me as CELTA teacher in UAE. The salary is 21.000 AED/month. I will call her tomorrow to get more information... This is all I got from the e-mail she sent me.
Is this legitimate? Has anyone done business with that company before? The website seems a bit strange to me.

I'm not sure what you find strange about their website, but they're legit; others throughout the forums have recommended them. |

I guess its not so much the website but the way I was contacted. I don't recall every creating a profile with them and was called 5 times in 10 minutes on my cellphone.
Thanks! |

You're a licensed teacher --- a "wanted man." |

Yep! Same here! Out of the blue I got a call from some woman named Winnie. And other's may not find it strange, but having worked in ESL for 20 years I've never been sought out like that...it's for the Adveti jobs that are posted. They are offering 1000 more than everyone else. It's still not good when you 've got to pay flights, housing, etc. Times, they are a changing... |

Same here. Very chatty call from a korean lady, saying nice things. Immediately suspicious. V little info about the job, except that it's in northern emirataes, is 8 hours a day, to low level 18 year olds. But where? Eaching hours, holidays, facitlities, accommodation...is it firts time for moe to run this? I notice a few other agents, same pay. Anyone know any more? E.g. Is it easy and quick to get to dubai? Whats it like in northern emirates? The boonies? |

It's ADVETI. Scroll down a bit on the forum; it's been recently discussed. |

If it is Adveti then it is best left alone. This bunch are pure 'bottom of the barrel' employers, even worse than HCT! |

They are conducting interviews starting next month and expect people to travel for them. They also have a long laundry list of documents they want BEFORE the interview including a CBR not less than THREE months old. From experience, employers with such exacting and rigid requirements frequently will have difficulty filling the positions, and keeping staff.
[Edit to note there is a checklist of 11 items and three forms which is expected to be returned in 2 days.]

The person who drove this organization into the toilet as an employer and instigated all the ridiculous requirements mentioned above is the same bozo that is destroying HCT.
Anyone job hunting should do themselves a favor and save significant time and aggravation by avoiding both of these employers.

I have come to learn that the reason why employers like this in the Gulf hold interviews is so they can get a travel allowance to visit foreign cities and live the good life. It would be so much easier to hold Skype interviews, and they would have so many more good candidates to interview, but alas! There would be no travel stipend.

So true!! Had to fly to Toronto for an "interview" that lasted all of 10 mins! I was furious! Flight cost, hotel...etc..they have you bring all these papers, get 5 passport photos done and guess what, didn't ask for any of it...maddening. |

Regardless of the employer, there are valid reasons to head to the US, Canada, and UK to hold teacher interviews rather than use Skype:1. Employers seeking teachers with specific qualifications (e.g., a US or Canadian teaching cert/license and public school experience) have a very large pool of applicants to choose from by taking their recruiting/hiring efforts to the US and/or Canada.
2. Skype is convenient; however, face-to-face interviewing eliminates the need to deal with time zones of 8 or more hours and avoids potential technical difficulties that may arise while skyping.
3. Recruiters/hiring managers have the ability to fully assess the applicants in person and review their original documents as needed. |

What's worse? Them flying from the UAE, flying 15 hrs, 8 hr time difference, then spending 3 days from, morning to eve interviewing hundreds of applicants...they looked exhausted, probably why the interviews were so short lol...although all they really asked went something like, "why do you think there are so many problems in gov't schools in the UAE?" |

Considering how that describes some students, that would have been an opportune time for you to demonstrate to those tired recruiters how you liven up your classroom.
All kidding aside, it is what it is. Besides, as an applicant, I'd rather be alert and energized for a face-to-face with pooped-out interviewers than struggling to stay coherent and awake during a 3:00am Skype interview. |
