I am certain that my employer is deducting my taxes and then not paying them to the govt.
Is there a way I can check? |

If I remember correctly, it is the school's responsibility to pay your income tax, meaning that no documentation or proof is given to you on whether they actually paid it. If you are good friends with the school's accountant, the/she could help you though |

Well, there are 2 ways to do it as I see it.
1) Ask them in a rather innocent way if the accountant could give you the proof of tax deduction receipts (they get them from the tax bureau i think) and proof of salary documents (the accountant has this along with your contract), as your bank needs them for you to send your cash home. If they have been pocketing your cash they may start to sweat.
2) Ask the accountant to tell you where the local tax bureau is so that you can get your proof of tax document yourself. Again, they may sweat if they have not been forwarding your tax.
Either way, you have not outright accused them of anything and have given them notice that they better start doing things by the book. If they have been deducting and paying your tax correctly, then they might huff and drag their heels a little, but you will get the proof you require. |

I have no idea how you can be so certain your employer isn't paying your tax - but one sure way to check....
Just bring your passport to the local tax office and ask for your tax certificate for money paid. |

Things work differently here in China for sure. I was concerned as to whether my taxes were being paid also as I get paid in cash every month.
Going along with the advice given in previous posts:
If you tell the school that your bank informed you that you need a tax bill to transfer money. They should give you the school's tax number and inform you where the local tax bureau is. Then just go there with your passport. (Thats what I did and it worked out fine) GL |

Open a bank account and then try to convert rmb to dollars (or British Pounds). If you are refused, go to your boss and then ask him to call your bank. If he won't, your taxes aren't being paid.
If you are receiving the amount of salary stated in your contract, he probably isn't skimming anything, though he probably isn't paying taxes.
Approach this subject very carefully. I've been through this countless times. |
