I've just got this in an email from the Uni where I'll be working,

As an updated regulation in China goes, the Foreign Expert Bureau and the university need foreign teachers to submit two additional documents:

1) Health Certificate.

2) Medical Insurance Certificate.

but I'm really not sure what to send them - I mean, I have medical insurance in my current job, but I'm leaving next week! Can anyone help?!?

Richard

You can download a medical exam form from the embassy website. The link at the top of this page is no longer working, so do a search, or front a PRC consulate.
Insurance is a new one. We've just hired 4 new teachers, and the FAO hasn't mentioned it.
I suspect it's the school's idea. They want you to cover yourself, rather than having to provide insurance or even basic care. I doubt it's a "new regulation".
Where does this leave you? Call their bluff, and/or look for another school. There's no shortage.

HaHa Laughing ,

Richard I believe the school where you will be working has just had some health problems with the FTs. Two heart attacks. One FT unfortunately passed away while the other FT is in hospital but expected to make a good recovery.

The school I think is trying to make sure incoming teachers have private insurance to pay for any major medical bills which may arise during their employment.

I doubt it is a new regulation Confused

I sure as hell hope it's not a new regulation, I wouldn't imagine that there are many FTs in China who can afford to pay private medical insurance! I'm thinking of asking my present school, where I have a permanent contract, to give me a document stating my present coverage. It's a bit sly but I may be able to get around it this way. On the other hand, I have already signed a contract with the Chinese school, surely I can point out that this has never been mentioned before and so doesn't apply to me? I mean, we already have our Z visas sponsored by the school so I can't imagine that they are really going to insist on it: As for the health check, would it be wise to point out that there are lots of FTs who have done this in their own countries and then gone to China and had to repeat the whole thing?

I'm sorry to sound so frantic but I thought we'd finally got things sorted out, and now this... Sad
