there was some discussion about this place- I will try to find the direct links. If i remember correctly it's based in bahrain but they opened a school in saudi and are extremely disorganized - I think there was even a discussion about them on this board - I will post back later =)

My original post has been deleted so I'm going to reply here for the future information of anyone interested.

I had a good interview with a nice American man for this post. The interview went well and a few days later I got an email offering the job and a sample contract.

The amount they offered was good but it was part of a package which was not broken down. The hours originally stated as 40, 5 days a week became 'no more than 48 over 6 days'. There was also a clause listing the many and various (and downright dodgy sounding) deductions that the employer was entitled to take from the salary.

I emailed back saying I would provisionally accept but, not wanting to sign up for a life of serfdom, could they please specify how much the rent was and what for, same with transport, training and 'technical allowance'. My email was polite and professional. I'm still waiting for a response a week later.

I did get a response from someone on another website forum who pm'd me with a long, long message about the horrible and confusing experience that she had with the school.

Meanwhile I have been offered a job in Kazakhstan, on a contract which is very explicit and has no spelling or grammar errors so I have accepted that one. If Ibn Khaldun do get back with more positive information I will post it for anyone else who may be thinking of going there.

Does anyone else have any further information on Prime Education- IBN Khaldun International School?

Please post or PM me the details if it is too horrible for public viewing.

This section in the sample contract is interesting:

contract wrote:
In the event of Second Party's absence without permission, The First Party shall deduct a second day against such absence. Should absence without permission exceed a total of 2 days during the contract period, the employment contract shall be terminated without end of service award.

Recruiters do not tend to be the best source for what is a "good" school. Since their definition is whether they get their fee promptly and the check doesn't bounce. Cool

I actually applied for this school, got an offer but I feel as if it's on the low side.

They said, if I remember correct:

8,100 BASIC
1,350 HOUSING
850 TRANSPORT

TOTAL 10,300 SAR

I have 3-4 years experience, an unrealted BA and CELTA. A british citizen. Not sure if anybody else has been given a similar offer.

Are offers from International schools generally this low?
Are university gigs higher paid?

Thanks for all responses.

The offer is mediocre due to your unrelated BA and lack of k-12 teaching license/certification. (You wouldn't qualify for a position with a real western-curriculum school.) The housing allowance is standard, although the transportation allowance is pretty decent. They seem to be a so-so international school based on the requirements per their ad:

Quote:
Ibn Khaldun Schools

Candidates should have a degree preferably in English or Education/PGCE. CELTA/TEFL also an advantage. They must be native English speakers holding a British passport. Previous teaching experience is essential. The package is very attractive for the right candidates. This includes a very good starting salary (tax free), generous housing allowance and free transport to school or transport allowance. Medical insurance, return flights in the summer and paid holidays are also included.

A university or college teaching post via a contracting company will probably net you about the same (maybe a bit more), again, because you lack a TEFL-relevant degree. You'd have to check the job board to see what your qualifications might get you and then apply.

Thanks NS, may I ask on a salary of 10,300, would you come out with much savings?

Considering that I will be taking my spouse and child with me. From the information I have been given,

Rent will be around 1,500 - 2,000
Transport will be 2,000 (renting a car)
Other costs 3,000 (going out may be once a week etc and eating at home most of the times.

Is a saving of 3,000 realisitc for a family of the size mentioned?

Thanks

When I said the pay was mediocre, that was with a bachelor in mind and not a married guy with a wife and child. That salary isn't enough when you factor in airfare for your family, furnishing your flat including appliances, visa costs for your dependents, etc.

Seriously, China is likely your best bet.
