There are places with "hordes of tourists"? I guess it is a stretch of the definition... or perhaps in relative terms. LOL

Some of those places look interesting, but I was amused by the "depilated city" - imagining it covered with hair in the past. It took me a bit to figure out that they wanted dilapidated.

Lots of locals travel within KSA. There is a well-developed internal tourist market.

When I think "hordes" of tourists, I think India or Egypt. The population of Saudia couldn't produce a horde on its own. It needs the Haj to do that. Cool

Saudis certainly CAN produce a horde! Just try pushing through the throng of thobes to the bar at the Manama AP ANYTIME 30 or so minutes before they return to their glorious Kingdom! Laughing

One of the surprises in Saudi Arabia is how geographically diverse it iis. The deserts in the North are like something in Arizona with inselbergs and buttes. The Asir Mountains are lush and green. The Rub Al-Khali is frightening.

Mdain Saleh is wonderful. Saying that, when we visited in 2004 we were accompanied by Saudi Police with some serious hardware. A group of Francophone tourists was attacked, with lethal results not long after our visit.

Throng of Thobes? Laughing Don´t know the Manama AP but I´m familiar with the Gulf Gate and the Bahrain International. Saudis, thobes, ghutras, pints of lager and whores. I loved it! Laughing What hypocrites they are.

Wendy´s? It rings a bell. One of the American fast food francihises? I may have used it once or twice but don´t remember. My favourite in Riyadh was Nafourah. Lebanese food should be up there with French, Italian, Chinese and Indian. Mouthwatering to even think about.

Tourism is very underdeveloped. I thought the Saudis dont even want tourism.

To go to these places, you need to speak Arabic as well.

Dear Hatcher,

"To go to these places, you need to speak Arabic as well."

Huh? Why? I went to many sites inside Saudi, and my Arabic is rudimentary,

Regards,

John

Dear izmigari,

Never had any problems in that regard. How about you?

(By the way, that post is a little rudimentary as regards apostrophes and subject/verb agreement: As is the Saudis' Arabic)

Regards,
John
