Just wondering how many of you have had your flights paid for after going back for work visas, or for applying for jobs from your home countries and getting hired before coming over.

Seems to be a rarity these days.

I get 9,000 per year for flights. I need to provide tickets. My school pays for visa runs outside of this amount.

Are you referring to upfront payments, or payment on arrival OR payment at end of contract?
In my exp first and second options never available.
The biggy on airfares has been the gradual erosion from 10K or full reimbursement to 8K or lower

I know of a university in Zhezhiang Province (excuse the faulty spelling, if applicable!) which offers 10,000 summer air ticket.

Please please free to pm me for details.

So far, my experience has been that public universities pay round trip for flights in and out.

I have noticed, however, that at some universities allowances are offered instead which barely cover a one-way ticket. Read the fine print before signing. Some contracts will state that less than 10,000 rmb will be allowed for round trip tickets. Either pass on those or negotiate before you leave home.

Be advised, however, that even if round trip tickets are promised, the likelihood that you'll see any of that money is slim. If you move on to another university instead of returning to your home country, the money for return plane fare won't be given to you.

As of last year, XJTLU pays 15,000 rmb a year for travel allowance. It is just paid with your salary, so you can use it as you like. Expats are allowed to write off two trips home per year, so you just need the receipts to avoid being taxed on the income.

My school only pays 6000 for reimbursement but justifies it with us getting paid for the summer without having to work.

XJTLU offered 10,000 rmb this year. Seems like I need to renegotiate this. On their website they say they offer allowances for 2 return flights a year to home country.
