Hi all,
I'm currently in China, cruising along, but continuously stay on "keeping my ducks in a row" as far as docs I might need in case I want to jump somewhere else. I've got my original AA and TESOL in hand.
I doubt I'll ever move anywhere where an apostille / FBI check are needed.
That said, I'm thinking about getting a new local police check from my state in the U.S. Wisconsin, you just to mail the form with a S.A.S.E. to get the official piece, and I've just have a friend Fedex it to me. I called the State offices, and they said there's no official expiration.
What have you seen in terms of expiration dates on local police checks?
I've heard 6 months here, 3 months there. Is it all just "YMMV" across the board?
I did need mine in China, but I'm wondering if I headed elsewhere, if it'd be valid.
Would re-upping mine be at least arguable with all other originals in hand, for one year?
Thoughts welcome.

It's irrelevant what Wisconsin or any other state tells you; expiration dates for criminal background reports are determined by the government regulations of the country you expect to work/live in. So there's no definitive, one-size-fits-all answer. Besides, visa and immigration regs can and do change --- what's required for X country today may be different a year or two from now. |

That's true. I suppose I should just keep my head in the sand until I'm 6 months from a move. The pre-planner in me is always anxious. Guess it's something I'll learn to curb over time. |

And some countries want to see a background check for each and every country you have ever lived in for a certain period of time, usually 180 days or more but that depends. Do you have a background check from China? And of course translated to English, stamped etc.
In fact, if you have not been back to your home country since your last background check and have been in another country teaching, then a 3rd country might very well accept the background check from China as it would cover time you have been outside the USA- Your passport has the stamps to prove where you have been and for how long... |
