|
|
Hey everyone,
Just curious what the social scene is like in Abu Dhabi? Is it difficult to make friends for people in their 20s? Is there a night life at all? Is dating difficult given that it is a country under islamic law?
Thanks for any feedback! |

Discussed very recently in Dating in Abu Dhabi?
Are you planning to work in the UAE? As I recall, you completed both a BA and CELTA last year. You'd need, at minimum, a TEFL-related MA + 3 years of experience (usually gained in the Mid East) to compete for positions in the Emirates. For teaching k-12 public and international schools, a degree and teaching license/qualification (related to the degree major) plus related experience are required. |

Yeah I am interested in China and Hong Kong for work purposes - am asking about Abu Dhabi more out of curiosity and leisurely travel.
And thanks for the link. |

I would not recommend Abu Dhabi as a place for leisurely travel for a pick up relationship. It's a work a day city. Folks come here for money and to get their CV fluffed up and student loans paid off. Most folks don't want to risk losing their job; there have been cases where teachers have pushed the limits of social propriety here and found that they were asked to leave.
There are the watering holes, where you'll find the old oil money and the younger teaching crew rub elbows and lift a brew.
There are interesting cultural events and sporting events, particularly on Saadiyate Island with the Louvre, Guggenheim and NYU AD offering lectures and events.
Yas Island is a bit more expensive. Basically, if you don't have a job in Abu Dhabi, you'll probably find it an expensive place to visit. |

Ditto that. The OP would have to make some serious money in China if he/she plans to spend some R&R in the UAE. |

Yes, I joined Dave's at the ripe old age of 6. Poor show on reading skills, troll. But what should we expect from someone who desperately spams the boards in multiple countries with useless, time-wasting requests for information that will never be used?
Oh, and thanks for the juvenile pms as well |
