Hello again
Does anyone here have any info. on the China Scholarship Council?

I'm talking about the faculty training programs that send Chinese lecturers and associate professors abroad for 6 months to observe in English university classrooms and to work on English fluency skills.
I've worked with two groups at the Univ. of California San Diego program recently, but was told yesterday that we're not expecting any more scholars at this point. Something is up, I think.
Any input from those who work with this program in China would be appreciated...! |

I thought that too. Trump is insignificant and irrelevant to the Chinese professors and associate professors who were here during the 'election'.
Their program representatives in Beijing told my boss's boss (after that Taiwan call) that Trump was nothing-- 'less than nothing' to them and that they would continue the program that had been around long before Trump and would continue to thrive regardless.
But the issues were on the China side. Apparently they started a few months ago-- some kind of legality tangles. That's why I posted the question on this forum.
Wish they had a proper English website. I still don't understand why they're even doing this. But we love those scholars when they come here. |

I am wondering if that is a UCSD-specific thing (no more scholars to UCSD but to other institutions in the U.S.) or is that a program-wide thing ("we will not be sending out any more scholars...period").
I am actually on the other side of the coin; that is, I am a U.S. citizen that has been awarded a scholarship from the CSC to study Chinese full time for one year at a mainland university. I can't really answer your question, but I've heard no news about any changes. With that being said, changes in such programs could happen at any time.
My lone piece of lame advice would simply be to continue to keep an eye on that website and an ear to the ground. I actually do reference that website often, but on the "Study in China" side:

I am a big fan of such programs (CSC, Fulbright) that send people to different countries, glad to hear that the scholars that are sent your way have worked out really well.
I apologize for the lack of help this post provided, but I just wanted to jump into the thread and say hi as I have been a beneficiary of the CSC as well.

Thanks for the reply. The student scholar program in CSC is different from the faculty program. Both are funded by the gov't, but they are separate.
I'm referring only to the professors and associate professors from western China who come for 6 months to complete a fluency course, observe American professors in their classes and give an English lecture in their subject/discipline before returning to China.
Thankfully- the program representative in China has confirmed this week that there will be another group of professors coming to UCSD in 2017. |

I have three Chinese professors/lectures start last month and several applying to start late 2017. Including a graduate student, So, no, as far as I am aware it is still like normal for the last couple of years. And yes my applicants are from Gansu Province, so western China.
