Hi,
New to applying to jobs in china, My partner and I got this job offer via Horizon ESL and they want us to make a decision by the end of this month.
We looked at Wu yi shan because we were both concerned about pollution and he wants to teach adults. I like the 2 days in a row off idea. I have been trying to contact a FT from that school to find out what they think , but so far, no dice.
How specific should we be in the contract especially around things such as contents and condition of apartment?
My partner wants to know what are the chances or asking for a higher rate of pay?
There is also a vague section about helping the CT's with their English, does this mean that we will be expected to teach extra classes not mentioned in contract?
any advice appreciated.
thanks in advance

Not talking to FTs is a bit of a red flag. It's one of the important questions to ask. Not saying that everything FTs say is reliable, but it generally gives you an indication.
You can ask for a higher rate of pay, but they give it you is a whole different story. With any negotiation you have to be prepared to walk away.
Ask about the vague section. A contract should be watertight. Though you're coming to China where to most people a contract means 'hopefully' or 'should be', never the less, get it in CLEAR writing. This also relates to accommodation e.g. how many rooms, what rooms, features such as a computer, air conditioning etc. ASK FOR PICTURES.
My advice - get it in writing and be clear. You're coming to China, don't want to fly half way around the world to find things aren't what you expected. |
