Hi everyone. I'm sorry for posting this, but my curiosity just got the better of me. I did manage to get a new job...ALT job (so I can take a long vacation and travel back home in August) at an elementary school. It's a public one. I start next week. They told me that this particular school uses uniforms. Out of curiosity, what does it mean when public elementary schools use uniforms? I know private ones do, but not too familiar with public elementary schools using them. Does it mean that it's supposed to be a prestigious or good elementary school? Is it a Tokyo thing?

Umm... don't most of them wear uniforms?

Most start wearing uniforms in jr high. I've yet to see this in a public elementary school.

Not for elementary school, unless it's a private school. This is a public school.

It's a first for me! If it sets a trend, I guess us parents can look forward to yet another school expense.

I'm wondering if this only applies to that particular ward. All of the schools I will be going to use school uniforms despite them all being public schools. They are all in the same ward.
