|
|
Does anyone know what the difference in salary is between an international school teacher in China and a good salary Tefl job? Is there a big difference in salary or can they be on a par with each other? What sort of salary does an international school teacher make in china? One recruiter said that a tefl job going at an international school paid 20,000RMB. I just wonder what other subjects are paid. some international teacher on tes forum reckons she and her husband get 16000 housing allowance per month! Some tefl salaries ARE 16000 per month. She didn't say how much she earns but said it's more after tax than she earns in the UK. So would she be on 30,000RMB then do you think plus this 16k housing allowance. She is in Shanghai I think. |

Dude, you just said you are probably taking another job in Italy. Where exactly are you thinking of working, and in what way is this question real and relevant?
Or are you just wasting people's time with for-fun questions?

International school salaries usually top out at approx 30K. I have doubts that this other poster is really earning 46K at an international school. IF it is true, that salary must represent the top 2-3% of what one can earn in China. |

The short answer would be Hell No !!!! That might be true for TEFL teachers, but not for teachers. I had a friend get a $15 000 bonus just for re-signing for a third year.

I'm off to China this summer. I will earn just under £45k, plus I get a 3 bed house on top for free. Plus the flights for all the family, private medical insurance for all, relocation, free child place at school, bonus every two years...
Respectable schools will pay these wages and look after their staff.
F%%k me. he;s earning 45k a month PLUS a free house!! I haven't seen any TEFL salaries pay this amount. Or do they? and a $15000 bonus for resigning in the 3rd year. The problem is I don't have references for my subject as I haven't taught for a while. I only have tefl references otherwise I'd apply for some of these international jobs. |

If you bother to look more closely at your linked website you will see that the NET starting salary (e.g after tax) is around RMB 24K / month. The NET salary only jumps to over RMB 30K / month if you have 8 years of teaching experience, hardly entry-level stuff.
Don't get me wrong, the salaries mentioned are quite good. But I doubt they are easy to obtain. A quick look at the job opportunities under that website reveals a total of TWO teaching positions, a Dutch teaching position and a Counselor. Hmmmm. |

I don't see the net salaries only the gross salaries. But tefl teachers will have to pay tax too won't they? God knows why they need a Dutch teacher or counsellor. I think tefl salaries range from about 15000RMB to 20000RMB. Perhaps there are a few slightly higher than this. I wonder if this WAB school is one of the best paying schools in Beijing then. Must be hard to get chosen for the job. I bet there are many applications |

I've just heard back from an international teacher in China, a Tier 2 city I think and he says he and his wife jointly earn 60,000RMB a month and pay 8000 for a lovely apartment. Dunno if this is really excellent or not but it seems quite good for two people. |

No they don't earn 60000 a month.
Thanks. |

Surely 30,000 each is feasible isn't it? That's what he said anyway, take it or leave it. |

I got in contact with the international teacher about his salary. He reckons it's 60,000 NET between him and his wife. He wrote back and said the following:
That salary is net. Taxes already paid. 8,000RMB is what you need to pay for a NICE 3 bed apartment and its a great deal in Shanghai. Most of our friends pay 12,000 to 15,000. Their housing allowance more than covers it.
We save about £20,000 a year plus live well, take two Asian holidays and go home every summer.
This is a third tier school. Many schools pay way better.
Which schools are they I wonder. If his taxes are already paid, they must both be earning a whack. He also reckons many schools pay way better. Do they really pay 40,000RMB gross then or thereabouts in China for these types of schools for a subject teacher? |

If anything, those international school salaries are likely high because they include hardship pay to make up for living/working in a heavily-polluted city. In fact, the US Embassy and major companies like Coca Cola and Panasonic have had to increase their salary/benefit packages to entice workers to China. |

From what I have heard, this year after negotiating salaries and signed contracts .. many of the international schools suspended benefits.. the paycheck was ok from the get go but the add-on's made the difference, and this is not limited to schools but also in companies the same is happening and there seems to be a trend towards hiring Chinese workers and letting foreign workers go. I have worked as a consultant for the last two years and this year they finely have their staff in place, a rotating schedule of British teachers. The new hires have lower pay and no benefits, have to live in teacher dorms. |

Sounds about right. Single guy, 10k housing, 30k salary here. But is cheaper cities id imagine compensation reflects cost of living |
